Downtown Abbey - Social Status - Camera Shots

we are currently analyising a 4 Minute extract from the Popular TV Drama "Downton Abbey" this is a good example because of the time it is based upon, in that time everyone was influenced by social standing so it is easy to identify the different social class in the extract

At the begining of the actual dialog the one character states that she is going to go talk to lady mary, the camera the cuts to a long shot of lady mary, this camera angle showed us the type of clothing she was wearing, she was clearly wearing a sort of High class dress this shows that she is wealthy and is clearly a lady of the manor as she was refered to as "Lady" and "Ladyship"

one of the next scene show the butler intorucing the driver, the way how the driver was in centerframe and the buttler wasnt shows that thre buttler was not important in the shot and the driver had a higher social standing than the buttler, also when the driver and the Lord are talking the camera angle from the drivers side to the Lord is always looking up to the Lord, but always looking down to the driver showing that the driver has a lower social standing than the lord.

The long shot of the buttler walking away from the two women chatting shows the combined wealth of them because it is showing the size and the quality of the abbey it also showed the type of clothing they were wearing which was long dresses that looked like the type of dress that a "Lady" would wear.

walking the two women woman in grey higher status because camera is more on her side

The importance of synergy in a global institution

The importance of synergy in a global institution

Synergy is important in a global institution because of the way in which it benefits the economy, due to synergy different countries can benefit from the profits because of international collaboration, because of international collaboration new media forms such as Blu ray and Ultraviolet can be sold and introduced into other countries, also thanks to larger companies such as Viacom and Time Warner media quality has been improved, eg.24/7 News Channels.

Because of synergy, merchandise creators like Hasbro are able to make more profit by obtaining the license to create toys, this way the production companies that make the movie, make more profit from selling the license and Hasbro make money by selling the merchandise this also helps the economy because of the jobs that are created. One good example is Transformers which is in fact the opposite way round, Hasbro officially own the right to the Transformers Brand they then sold the license to Viacom to allow them to make the films, they also did this with the popular strategy game Battleship in which the license was sold to Universal Studios who then created the movie, but the difference between these two examples is that when Hasbro sold the license for transformers they continued to create the merchandise and products that ran alongside the movies allowing Hasbro to generate more profit this also signified the beginning of Hasbro’s move into the movie market.

Synergy is not just important internationally its important on a small scale, for example This Is England if it was not for synergy it would not have been released on the scale it was, it would have only been release in a minimal amount of cinemas, the main companies involved in the synergy where Film4, Warp Films and Optimum Releases, if it wasn’t for the synergy of the production studios and Optimum Releases it would have been distributed as well as it was and would not have been such a hit which then lead on to a TV based sequel.

Some of the larger examples of synergy are The LEGO video games, in which companies like Time Warner sell the License of Harry Potter to LEGO, whom then either sell the license of both Harry Potter and LEGO to a game designer company, or they would go into partnership for the project and then take a cut of the profits, without synergy the media world that currently exist wouldn’t exists and because of synergy the media world will keep evolving and growing.

Definition Of TV Drama

i believe tv dramas attempt to create a realistic world in a virtual world but in almost every reincarnation of a tv drama it is always exagerated, this is because it makes the audience interested in the show because if this didnt happen they would have low ratings and the show would not continue to air. in most cases the exageration is limited due to censcoring, for instance deaths in tv dramas are not aloud to be to gory which may disrupt the illusion of the show. they all have relatable characters in to allow the audience to build a connection with them so if they died the audience would be interested in the show post death to see how other characters are coping with the death.
